Kollywood actress Sangeetha shot to fame after a controversial film Uyir with Srikanth. And, now she is ready with yet another controversial film Dhanam. Dhanam’ is a film that reflects the life of a devadasi. Sangeetha plays the title role in this film directed by cinematographer Siva. The audio release of the film is to take place shortly. Having seen the rushes of the film, director K Balachander has praised the director’s efforts as well as Sangeetha’s acting. “From my guru Balachander, I learnt the meaning of cinema. To hear words of praise from him is as wonderful to me as getting the national award,” said Siva. When asked about the film, he is all praise for Sangeetha.

“During shooting at Kumbakonam, we planned to shoot a song inside a dilapidated bungalow that had a stagnant pool of rubbish and slush inside. We were unsure if the heroine would be willing to get into that slushy pool, but we anyway explained the necessity of having to shoot the song there to Sangeetha, when she arrived at the spot. Without any hesitation, she got into the water and got ready for the shot. Despite the cold, she got totally wet in the water as we shot through the night and landed with high fever the next day

So we decided to cancel shooting for the day, since Sangeetha was essential for shooting to proceed. But she understood a producer’s plight and in half an hour, she surprised everyone by appearing at the shooting spot. Her enthusiasm and involvement caught on and shooting proceeded at a brisk pace. Girish Karnad, Kotta Srinivasa Rao, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajalakshmi, Prem, Ilavarasu, Manobala, Raj Kapoor, Santhanabarathi, Manoj Kumar and Sasi Mohan have appeared in important roles.

Karunaas, MS Bhaskar, Chinna Jayanthi, Singamuthu, Crane Manohar, Cesar Manohar will provide some rip roaring comedy. It is indeed sad that cinematographer Jeeva who was an integral part of this creation, is no longer with us. All 7 songs composed by Ilayaraja are melodious. His background score in every scene shows his individuality.” Since this is a story of devadasis, will there not be controversies? “Yes, but you will know what that is after you watch the film,” says the director with an element of suspense.
